My e-brake light seems to come on in the cold weather when i am just getting the car moving. Even if the brake isnt and hasnt been on. Anyone know why?
And...i was in some snow this weekend, and the ABS was doing good, but after a while the ABS light remained on and ii had no more ABS brakes, they would just lock up, no crunching sound. but the light was on, even when i wasnt on the brakes, i parked the car for the night and light was off in the morn.

Not sure about 2nd gen's.. but on my 96 the brake light will come on if your brake fluid is low. Check the brake fluid reservoir under the hood before you do anything else.

Or it could be a bad ABS sensor

 

Yep, 2nd gens do the same thing. Do what ASU4runner said first and then go form there.

the ebrake light is also the idiot brake flulid light on most semi older toyos

 

id spray a lot of water near the drums/calipers and see if that does the trick...it worked for me

 

My 2nd gen's brake light was lit by a frozen caliper. Have no idea how it would know about that, so it must have some other things it looks at... check fluids, pads, ebrake adjustment

 

Give the e-brake handle a push when it does it. Seen a lot of them where the handle doesn't like to stay in, especially when it gets cold and things start to get stiff. If it is, spray it with some Deep Creep or similar lube and work it in there.

 

The brake fluid needs to be right up to the line; not a centimeter lower. My '90 was notorious for that. Adding even 1 tsp extra, even when it looked like it was ropped off, would sometimes be enough to kick off the light.

 

my lights been on for a few months now. the fluid is topped off. I checked the sensor-looking thing in the master cylinder resovoir, and it looked like a little bit of the amber-colored plasticky thinger (thats right, gettin' super techincal with y'all today...) was chipped off. not a huge amount, but enough that it looks like the wires might be a little exposed. no chance to hit up a scrap yard to find a replacement yet. on a side note, anyone know a good scrap yard in calgary, alberta? im new here, so i dont really know where to go yet...

 

In my 2nd gen, all i did was unplug the sensor on the resivoir. There must have been a short in the wire on mine
