E-brake????

Does any one else’s E-brake light randomly come on when it is cold outside. It just got kind of cold here and this morning my e-brake light come on like 10 times on the way to school. The brake isn’t activated at all and I pushed it in just to make sure. The brake isn’t sticking either. Truck rolls find when just in drive…..any ideas? 98 taco.

Did you check the fluid level, the light also comes on when it's low. usually if it's near the low side the light will go on and off as the fluid sloshes around with bumps and corners.

A couple of winters ago, my e-brake light would come on when it was cold out, but would go off once the engine warmed up. Turns out that was just the first sign of my alternator failing. While you're checking the brake fluid, see how many volts you're getting out of your cold alternator.

how many volts does it put out? Fluid is good, not close to the bottom line.

The specs from the manual are 13.6 - 14.8 volts at 77 degrees and 13.2 - 14.0 volts at 239 degrees, with the engine running at 2000 rpm.

Ummm, it's more important to note how close to the top line it is. The brake fluid sensor is designed to be premptive and it's pretty sensitive to the fluid level dropping below the top line.

If it's below the top line, then you'll be in a better spot if you top it off.

Ok. I will fill it up when I get home to. I will check both in hopes to eliminate the problem.
