Hey guys, on the way to school this morning I went over a bridge and heard a loud grinding noise. I thought to myself well that didnt sound too good. I decided I wasnt losing any control or anything so keep on riding. Well at the next redlight I slowed down.... well next thing I know the pedal goes to the floor I had to pump the brakes up to get it to work, so I thought to myself, must have either busted a brake line or master cylinder is going bad. I get to the school then have a quick look at my tires for any fluids slung around then under the hood at the brake fluid reservoir, nothing seemed to be leaking and plenty of fluids. Hmm... must definitely be the master cylinder. So then I finish my 1 class then off to work for GM. I took off my tires then the left rear drums.... Both shoes fell out immediately. My shop foreman looked at it and said it looked like the parking brake was overly adjusted. He showed me the grooves and the tension on the park brake cables. Now I have to make my corrections for another post.... You do NOT pull the e-brake up several times in reverse. You just simply put it in park and pull the e-brake up and down a few times and let the self-adjusters work by themselves. Dont believe me? Jack up the rear end then pull the drums off, have someone pull the e-brake then watch the star wheel. When you back up and pull the e-brake then you put more force on the primary shoes then it overadjusts the star wheel. Sorry for the long post, hopefully someone will learn from my mistakes.

Interesting indeed.
The whole reverse e-brake thing never worked for me anyway, although I only tried it a few times. Not anymore though.

 

When I get back from my trip I will be sure to ask a teacher at our school doing the Nissan Program, then some of my teachers in the GM Program, and maybe even call Toyota and talk to a technician to get some better explainations. I was told not to do this from our shop foreman and he is a master technician for GM. I know on most GM vechicles all you have to do is put it in reverse then hit the brake pedal a few times and the adjusters will self adjust but this is for either the duo servor or leading and trailing brakes (I dont remember which).
