dumb question

dumb question

i got a body lift today just cause i want some more tire clearance but i wanted to know why do i need to cut and weld the the stick on my manual transmission. i mean wouldnt it be like a short shifter?

if you havent already checked www.4crawler.com , do so post haste. all your questions will find answers there. should there be something that you are unsure of, an email describing the issue will, more than likely, be answered in a timely fashion. there is plenty of information on the site, take a look around and be prepared to spend some time reading!

I added a body lift to my manual and didn't notice any difference so I left it alone. But if you went like 3" or something on the body lift then perhaps you might need to. Check the website referenced above for details.

and it wouldn't be like a short shifter, if you mean short throw shifter... The throw would be the same, the difference would be the shaft will be 2" shorter. You could use a taller style shift knob or something like the shift lever extenders (screws on where the knob is, then the knob screws onto it,) rather than extending the shaft. On mine the prior owner had installed the 3" BL and extended the shifter 3", but then I added Marlin's short throw shifters so now I need to cut out the 3" cuz it's WAY too tall!

Wait and test drive it and see if you like it, you can always extend it later if you like.

i have a 3" PA bl, and i didnt extend my shifter.... when i drove it, it was at a comfortable level, so i said, it's fien where it is at... i always thought my shifter at stock height was too high.....
