Question Dramatic Mods...

I'm looking for the most dramatic mods for my truck that are still safe for my 20 year old engine.

1. LCE Headers - Definite.
2. Big Bore Throttle Body - Worth it or not?
3. Camshaft - Any good suggestions for a 22RE?
4. Electric Fan - Worth it or not? Is it loud?
5. Block Brace - Worth it on a 120 HP Engine?

Thanks for any feedback.

wont need a block brace, the fan is a good thing, dont know if its loud.... i personally would get the smallest upgrade cam you can, you dont need to put a huge cam if otehr things arent done and if you upgrade the top end mad, you should do the bottom end as well, if not keep it small up top.. from what i have heard, throttle body spacers dont really do much....

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, the only reason I'm not sure about the electric fan is because I don't know if its loud. The stock fan that runs off a belt is loud at first, been then it cuts off (because of the fan clutch) and runs a constant speed - quietly.

Header and cat back exhaust would be the first thing I would do.

I would chose a cam that gives you more torque at a lower RPM than horspower at a higher RPM.

An electric fan should run quiter than you stock mechanical fan and worth a few HP. I dont consider this a dramatic mod though.

Look into getting some balanced injectors from LC Engineering or others. Not really a dramatic mod either but will make the motor run better and more efficient.

SoCal, he's a 2WD'er. He's got nice small wheels and tires, so torque probably isn't as much of an issue.

Upgrade your pipes but make sure to stick a muffler on... Friend has a truck just like yours with no muffler and its one of the riciest things I've ever heard. Electric fans can be a very good thing. They usually only come on when the engine temp. warrants it.

Cherry bomb on mine. It is too loud at times, but dang does it feel good to press it in and get that throaty throwback. It sounds very V6/8ish, but I don't think its a sound that would go with a truck like yours Yotatruck.

Hmmm. I should take a new video of the exhaust sounds...

yes definately..... if going with a cam, replace the valve springs, deck the head for true, get new headbolts or studs, and get new rocker arms and springs, also get a valve grind done and the valve seals replaced....

check out www.engnbldr.com i have heard great stuff about him

Yea, I have a magnaflow and I love the sound. It didn't really seem to do much for power though. I got more out of the $15 air intake I got off ebay.

Ok, so...

1. LCE Headers - Definite.
2. High Flow Cat - Definite.
3. Flowmaster 40 - Already have it.
4. Electric Fan - Probably. Will the LCE 22R Black Magic Fan work with my 22RE?
5. Camshaft - Maybe alittle further in the future due to $$$.

Thanks for all the feedback. Any more ideas?

That's what I was afraid of. I need a quiet electric fan.

If it were me, I'd get a new head with oversized valves from engnbldr.com, stick his 270 cam in it, Thorley headers (lots less dough than LCE) into 2" exhaust, then step up to 2.25 at the cat. I like Dynaflow mufflers...
Along with that, do the electric fan, maybe find underdriven pulleys at a wrecking yard or something for your accessories.
I'm still trying to figure out what I can do to my intake that's smog legal. At least visually...

The big boar throttle body is suposed to add 10hp but it costs like $300 or something like that.

I honestly can't imagine the bigger throttle body helping on anything but an extremely modified engine. Our VAF and intake tube is so friggin restrictive that a bigger TB seems an ungodly waste of money. But I've been wrong before...
