Dome Light Problem

Hey all

The dome light works for the passenger side door but not the drivers side. And i live on a corner and its dark on the side street so id like it to work. I have checked te door "plunger" and it goes in and out but im not sure why its not working.

I was reading this hoping for an answer...

My dome light comes on w/ the passenger side as well, but not the driver's side. HOWEVER, when I open the driver door the door light in the door comes on, just not the dome light. When I open the passenger door, the door light comes on and the dome light. I'm beginning to think this is just how it is supposed to be. This is an 1985 4Runner.

My '85 dome light comes on with either door open and the door lights come on when that door is open. Could be the blocking doide for the driver's side door or the connection to the dome light is missing. Both switches tie together w/ a pair of diodes to ground the dome light when in the automatic mode.

I looked at the connections yesterday. There is a plug into the plunger on the driver's side, and like I said, the door light works when I open the door, so the plunger is good, just the dome light don't work w/ the driver's door. I hate to think about trying to trace the wiring blind...got a diagram/link anywhere for this?

Wiring diagram in the Factory Service Manual, basically:

Code:
Battery
|
Fuse
|
Dome Door
Light Light
| |
Diode |
+------+
|
Switch
|
Ground

:pat: I got one of those...I hope it has a diagram of where to look for things...I hate wiring, but I'd like to have the dome light come on when I open my door for sure...

Thanks Roger, I need more coffee this morning.

I think the wiring just runs up the driver's side a-pillar.

If that is the case...that would explain a lot...only wiring in that spot is wiring I put there for my a-pod gauges. Gotta dig out the FSM when I get a chance. Thanks.
