I have a '99 4Runner LTD. It did not come with remotes. I bought it from a used car lot and got the name of the previous owner off the title. I called her and she said that it had remotes when she turned it in at the end of her lease. I forgot to ask the woman about the alarm and don't feel comfortable calling her again.

So I guess I know it at least is equipped to handle keyless entry. How do I know if it also has an alarm? There is the factory flashing security red light on the dash. I have ordered a couple of remotes off of eBay and they should arrive Friday.

 

That flashing light is your alarm.. I would call the place you got it from and ask them about the remotes that are part of the car.

 

I believe if you look under your drivers side seat that you should see the alarm if you have it.

look under your driver's seat. that ist he most common place where they install the brain box.

do a search here or on google forthe RS3200 manual.

The only thing under the drivers seat is the power seat motor. I have attached a photo of the location of the security light.

 

The photo isn't very clear after posting. The security light is just above the AC controls (glowing red light) Is this for an alarm or for the transponder key system?

 

If you have security light at the place where you pictured it, that means most likely you have aftermarket alarm system installed.

My advice to you would be to stop by at any of your local car stereo shops and ask them to help you determine that kind of alarm you have. Most likely they'll be able to program remote for you as well if they carry that particular brand of alarms.

I have a 99 LTD and I am pretty sure that is a factory alarm that you show in the picture. Mine says "security" and flashes red when the alarm is set.
