Ok I just picked up a 96runner and I went to check the oil only to my horror to find it was dry(the dip stick) I got the truck from a whole saler God only knows what the trucks history was, so I decide to drain the oil to see if any was in it which luckily there was. So I fill it with new oil I put 4liters in and checked the oil again, Still dry, so I figure that the dip stick is not the original and move the stopper so it shows full. This was last week, well Im driving today and had to stop quikly and my oil light comes on, im thinking w.t.f and it occours to me that maybe the dip stick was right and maybe it takes 5liters. I dont have the manual so my question is how much oil does a 3.4 take.

 

You mean QUARTS, not litres. ( or do you?)

5.5 quarts according to Haynes

or 5.20494122 litres

 

And according to the owner's manual, 5.5 quarts or 5.2 litres, which puts me right at the full mark.
