Question Detailing my engine bay question's

The winter season is over here in Washington State and I'm ready to clean my engine bay. I have been told SimpleGreen is a good cleaner and I have that sitting at home. But what else would work good to clean it thouroughly then something to give it a glossy shine? Ben

BBB,

engine cleaner is going to be the easiest way to get the majority of the dirt and grime off. howver, some cities have laws against its use so better check first.

simple green is good but you're gonna get real dirty doing the whole engine bay.

If they sell it at the store in your city. Is it safe to assume that its legal? I went out and bought that citrus engine degreaser last week and did the lexus. It worked so good, I took pictures of it. The engine looked better then new.

Once you clean your engine with degreaser, spray it down with no touch tire foam. It will look good for a long time.

Once I've given my engine a solid cleaning with strong stuff I usually then switch over to a good soaking with environment-friendly Simple Green then a good spray down every few months and you'd be surprised how well the stuff works without harsh additives.

i use the gun engine bright stuff on my motor and other greasy stuff. i went to buy some one day from a vw store for my bug and they said i should becareful because if any authorities (that care) see me washing it down the gutter, they can call the hazmat team out and then bill it to me! i guess you cant drain it down the gutter here in cali.

but i do all my work at my dads shop which has a huge lot so they cant see wat im doing. i've rolled my bug over twice with the forklift, spilled about 5 gallons of gas onto the ground, which i had to sweep up with a broom and dustpan and cleaned my greasy trans in the dirt.

Yes, soaking is a must with simple green.

I too would rather use this and have to repeat than to use something that I know will kill a bunch of little mice and bunnies.

Of course, this says nothing of the gunk that actually comes off and that I let sit on the asphalt... waiting for the next rain to get rid of it.

I do the initial clean at the car wash with a strong degreaser then I just Simple Green throughout the year unless I neglect things for a while.

Some substitute Pledge furniture spray instead of WD-40 (believing WD-40 attracts dust).

WD40!!!!!!!!!! Holy Shhhhhhhh

Armor all supposedly does a good job at keeping dust and dirt from 'adhering' to surfaces. Of course, it does attract dirt, but it can be wiped right off. I haven't actually tried this though, so who knows.

I think we should be able to put anything we want in the gutter or down the drain or in a landfill. PCB's Flourine, Benzine...

I mean, Mexico has no environmental protection laws and look at TJ!

IT'S A PARADISE ON EARTH!
