Deck Plate Mod Clarification

I've read a lot of information on this forum about the deck plate mods that people are doing. But I have a question about what you do with the old air intake hole, do you seal it up, or just leave it open. Nobody really says. I assume people just leave it open? It doesn't seem like it would hurt anything to leave it open. Then if you are going to encounter any high water situations, you'd want to seal up your new front deck plate hole and the old routing would still be in place.

Thanks for all of the good information on this site!

In addition to the above responses, I recommend installing some window screen material or something similar to the deckplate. There should be just enough of the deckplate sticking into the airbox to put a large hose clamp on to hold the screen. It keeps the larger "chunkies" out (bugs, leaves, etc..).

Since installing the deckplate over 18 months ago, I haven't put the cap on yet and have driven through some bad rain storms at highway speeds. The airbox never took in any water.

Greenwood is just southeast of Lee's Summit. I'm about 5 miles east of the intersection of 150 HW and 291 HW.

I just got the truck a little over a month ago, so I haven't done anything to it yet. It's the dark red, 4-door, 4x4 TRD. I'm planning some of the standard mods I've read about on this site to add a few hp: deck plate, Amsoil air filter, cat back exhaust. Nothing too dramatic. For appearance, I'm thinking some chrome nerf step bars with black rims would look pretty tough, maybe darker tint on the rear windows. . I'll probably keep the standard size tires. I drive it about 70 miles a day round trip to work.

And thanks for the extra info on the deck plate mod too.

I'm planning a custom airbox and plan to install a deckplate in it. I've searched and found alot of info.

What I haven't found is how much space (clearance) is needed to remove the deckplate. What I mean by this is how close to the removable side of the deckplate can I have obstructions? It *looks* like about 1/2 -3/4 of an inch is needed. (?)

Anyone have a pics of the actual removal process?

Look in my sig file for exhaust clips.
There are quite a few in there, and more are coming when I get some time to update the page.
They are also linked on the forum from a link in Yotatech Community.
