dash mod idea

so the other day i was at my parents house going through my room where i spent my entire childhood, cleaning out some old junk, when i came across my old sega game gear.

attached on top was a sega tv tuner... and to my surprise (after a battery change, of course) it still all works!

in case you dont know, a sega game gear is a small handheld video game system that had a color screen. early models of it (which i have) support the tv tuner attachment which allows you to watch color tv.

now, heres my idea (which seems doable!). i have a buddy that can take anything electronic like this apart. i want to crack it open, separate the insert bay (where the tuner plugs into), and the little lcd screen. im getting a head unit put in (alpine!) next week... so i want to take the bay and screen and fab my own plastic part and install it under the head unit in the empty din area.

picture of my idea attached. hea dunit in red, what i wanna do in white below it. any ideas? things i should watch for? it will be AA battery powered the way I want to set it up.. 6 AAs at that!!

whatre your thoughts on the idea?

Maybe I'm just a dumba$$ but are you thinking about playing your game gear in the 4R?

sounds like a good idea.

a good way to improve on that would be find out how many volts it uses (6 AA's means 6 x 1.5 = 9 volts) and find some way to downgrade the trucks 12v to 9 volts. then you can find some way to hard wire it

no, gaming isnt possible as im discarding the buttons for it.

the tuner works independently, no need for any of the gg buttons.

its mainly for entertainment on long trips (for passengers, i can listen!), and for sports games (go patriots)

I don't know the specifics off the top of my head, but by using some basic physics equations and resistors or voltage regulators you can do that 12V to 9V pretty easy.

Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...&s=electronics

Its a multi voltage regulater. I got one about a year ago for around $20. Just crack it apart and hardwire it.
