CSI or battery?

My Runner has been having a tough time starting, yeah yeah I know it's cause it's cold out but it shouldn't be this tough, I'm almost thinking its my Optima only having 550cca's.

It cranks pretty weak but when it starts its strong...not sure if its the CSI not giving it enough fuel at first so it doesn't seem like its not cranking right or its mainly a weak (as in not a very high cca rating) battery...ideas?

Did you get your terminals online or locally? Either way, brand and what gauges can they handle? I've been debating whether to go ahead and go that route or not...maybe this is the time.

Thanks man,

LMAO...that sounds really good actually, dangit...

Hmm, I might have to go look at Autozone and see if they have anything like that.

Thanks for the help man, I'll keep an eye out.

Other than that, what else could be the problem guys? Battery just not strong enough for the winter, bad CSI (if there is one), bad starter...??

550cca is pretty low, your '99 does not have a CSI, cold start enrichment is handled by the regular injectors

That's what I was thinking...sounds like its not really a problem, its just the battery having a low cca rating.

Wonder if I should consider getting a stronger battery...I wish the 3rd gen could accomodate a bigger Yellow Top.

Not near as cold as it will...I would guess this morning it was probably high teens maybe low 20's. Overnight low was easily in the teens not sure what it was when I actually tired to start it, I'd say 20's or so.

Just a thought.. what weight oil are you using? If the battery is not quite up to it AND the oil is too thick, well, you know...

And thanks, guys. Now I have to eat onion rings today. HAVE to...
