Why not just rent a strap or chain wrench and hold it that way?
Just be sure to pretect the pulley from damage (I use a piece of an old bike tire to wrap around).

 

Old mechanics trick to break it free: using a socket & breaker bar, wedge the breaker bar against the top of the driver's frame rail and *quickly* bump the starter. Engine torque will break it free.

Be very careful, and just TAP the starter. You may have to tap more than once. If the thought of this makes you nervous then don't do it... go get a chain or belt.

Do not use this technique to tighten...

 

This method also does work but it does make some nervous.

 

I’m more concerned about torquing the pulley during reassembley. If I can get the part for $50, it would be worth it in the long run. But for $220, I would rather manage without it.

You have to also get the bar that clips to the part that bolts to the pulley.

Also I have the tensioner compressor and a torque wrench. I think that's all I need.

Do you guys know what size the bolt is that holds the pulley on? I am about to do the timing belt this weekend.

Yeah, it is 19mm... I just did mine a couple of weeks ago... Good luck getting that bolt off it took some muscle! I would spray it with some kind of penetrating oil and let it sit overnight just to give you that much more of an advanatage.

I personally made my own that rested on the frame so that I didn't have to have someone else hold it while I broke the bolt free.
