climate control problem
Howdy all, I have a '01 4runner limited and the heater control/ climate control is not working. The vehicle will blow warm or cold air however i cannot turn the ac off ( its stuck on) nor can i switch back and forth between fresh/recirculating air. i removed the unit and tried cleaning everything- did not help. any one know where i can pick one up??
thanks

I assume that you know this already, but if you have the air direction set to any of the windshield defrost positions, your A/C will be "on" by default and can't be turned off (it helps to clear the fog/dew on the windshield quicker.) At least it's that way on my non-limited 2002 4Runner. Does your limited have auto climate control or manual? If manual, it would be the same as my 2002. I don't think defrost locks out the option to change from fresh to recirc, however.

it is likely broken blower box linkage or electronic

The fresh air/recirc is a different problem... and he likely doesn't have a linkage for his fresh air/recirc anyways... it is a servomotor. That's where I would start. Remove the air inlet servomotor and test it (apply battery voltage to it directly) to make sure it rotates like it should.

Hey guys thanks for the input, there are a couple of buttons on the control head that don't work- not just the recirculation button. the ac, recurculation, and the outside temp. thinking its the main climate control unit.

Just so ya'll know, this is a very common problem. There is a guy on ebay that will rebuild your existing unit for $150 I do believe. I haven't heard any bad reviews from him and can't wait to send mine off. Much cheaper than a replacement
