check engine light

last week my check engine light came on, and it gave me the codes that piston 1 has a misfire. so i changed all my spark plugs, and that didnt fix the problem. and for awhile my truck has been running really rough, feeling like its about to die at stop lights and such. should i try changing out the spark plug wires? thanks in advance for any help..

Sounds like a good plan to me, but use OEM wires. You only get the P0301? No other codes?

I would swap coil packs 1 to 3 and see if miss moves to #3(1,3,5 cylinders have coils) ..

Don't be fooled by the plug wire numbers...They correspond to the coil locations...not the wire locations

Wires should really say 2,4,6....but they don't

LOL,didn't see that...a new wire set might be inorder...

It does share coil packs,But with two wires comming from same coil usually I would think that it would start to drop both cylinders if the coil was going...

If you are getting a p0300, I might look differently at this trouble shooting. What does the FSM suggest for trouble shooting a P0300? If you don't know look here: http://www.ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=59089

I guess it doesn't matter, they show the same trouble shooting suggestions for all the misfire codes. I quote from this page:
http://www.ncttora.com/fsm/2003/Repa...rzfe3/dtcc.pdf

P0300
(DI–77)
Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire
Detected
Open or short in engine wire
 Connector connection
Vacuum hose connection
 Ignition system
 Injector
 Fuel pressure
 EGR system (Only for 3RZ–FE)
 Mass air flow meter
 Engine coolant temp. sensor
Valve clearance
Valve timing
 PCV hose connection
 PCV hose
ECM

OEM wires are probably the best, but I haven't had any problems with the NGK wires - much less expensive (under $30 for the set).
