Hey all, im planning on installing a CB radio and im planning on putting the antenna on the LR corner of the truck. I was wondering if you guys could post up some pics on how your routed the cable to the mount. i want to make it as clean as possible. Thanks

I routed mine through the tail light, into the interior trim sitting above the rear storage space, down along the wheel well (still behind the trim), into the trim for the rear seat belt, into the carpet, under the carpet to the console, under the console into the dash. I had to make a small notch in the plastic on the tail light for the cable to run through. My cable is 12 ft long and I can't squeeze another centimeter out of it if I tried. It's really strained so if your CB is located in the old ashtray location I'd say get a 14 ft cable if you can.

 

ok yeah i plan on putting it there. how well is your tail light sealed?

Here's some pics I got. After going outside to check it out, I realized I didn't actually notch the tail light for the cable, I notched it to fit the antenna bracket in that location. If you plan on mounting a bracket somewhere else you don't need to cut anything. There is a good gap on the bottom and top of the tail light to allow the cable to be run through.

No leaks, even with the tail light notched. That whole area behind the tail light is pretty well insulated from the weather. Don't mind the body damage, that was from when I flopped my rig and the antenna mount pushed into the body. Hopefully you don't need to worry about that!

I had more coax to work with so it's routed behind or under the trim all the way from start to finish, and through the wiring grommet for the tail light.
I haven't been talented enough to test out side vs mount strength though.

 

did it in a similar fashion, but below the light housing. used same mount- works great!

end is routed out of hole on left, with grommet, then routed above housing with wire clip.


only thing i want to change is add a flat metal extender (~2") to get the antenna outside the rear door. in current state, i have to bend the antenna out while opening/closing cargo door.
