Camry/Lexus Seats in a 3rdGen

Anyone tried substituting seats from a Camry or Lexus into a 3rd Gen? Found a set of each at a local yard and going to try to see if I can get a close fit. Just can't find a set of 4Runner seats. Anything any one has to add is appreciated

Something wrong with your current seats that you need to swap them out?
If you have tears, there are more options for you than just replacement.

I find that my seats on a long ride, over an hour, my back starts to hurt and they aren't that comfortable.

Do you guys have the lumbar adjustment (sport seats) ? I have taken my rig on some pretty long drives (8-9hrs) and its not to bad if you need to you can give the lumbar area more support.

I have the lumbar support, and my back still hurts after long drives. The limited leather seats aren't very comfortable for long drives. I though about getting a set of plush lamb skin seat covers.

Well interesting posts. To clarify, for those who did not understand my orginal post, as it seemed to get a bit side tracked as to the "why" I was changing the seats and not the "how" to install Lexus/Camry seats. If you check my avitar, you will note I am changing my SR5 to an "SR5 Limited", which includes the leather interior, wood grain upgrade trim. I have not been able to find a nice set of 4Runner seats that match. So, I went back to the Yard this weekend and fortunately the 4Runner I had pulled the rear seats out of was still there. I found the seats from a 2007 Camry Limited but when I tried to fit them, they really did not want to go in without considerable re-work, i.e. bending, drilling etc. I also noted that the color was more grey then oak so they were no longer an option. Also found out the seats from older Camry and Lexus even though they were the right color, had very dissimilar mounts. The fronts were close but the rear mounts were totally different. Oh well, the hunt continues.

Another note: Going to try to do a hood mod. Found a nice set of rear lifts from a Nissan Xterra that have a mount bracket on one end so doing the remainder should not be too difficult. Now just have to sit down and do the engineering portion of the mod. See guys, Nissan's could be good for something ... PARTS! More booty acquired, a couple more 12vdc outlets, one is from a Mitsubishi SUV which just unscrewed but has lighted ring, gauge cluster bezel out of a 97 Runner for customizing, another auto dimming compass/temp mirror with sensor, (courtesy of a 1999 Chevy Tahoe), a couple of under dash lights out of a 2006 Escalade. Next will be converting some interior light to mount under the hood and the ever elusive electric fan! Thought I had found a nice dual fan out of another late model Nissan 'Z' (almost another use for a Nissan) but it was about an inch too long for my radiator. Total expense in todays "rummage", $5.83. Helps to be a "regular" at your favorite 'Yard'. More to follow.

Going for leather seats. Buy covers:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...spagenameZWDVW
or aftermarket replacements (Katzskin??). Or look for full seats on ebay. I have looked at swapping in other seats and it almost always seems to need a lot of reconfiguring of the frame.

Going for more comfort, back support.
Re-upholster. For those with lack of lower back support it is actually pretty easy. Buy a piece of medium soft foam, cut to fit lower back part of seat. If you lay the seat all the way forward you can find the plastic piece that opens the bottom of the back rest. Open it, insert foam (single or double layer as needed) and test the shape with seat upright in normal position. Close up the backrest and you are done. Now my lower back is perfect.
Quick fix: by a lumber pillow from a backstore.

Seat cushion is a bigger problem, you can do reupholster but you have to removed the seat cushion or the whole seat and deal with hog rings (did it to the passenger, still need to add to driver side).

sorry for the thread drift.

the seats in the runner suck. Now the seats in my tundra are sooooo much nicer. The rear you might have to do some serious fabwork to make work. But the fronts would be do-able
