Angry Bummer, poor girl crapped out on me.

On my way home from work Friday i started to smell anti-freeze and quickly looked at my temp. and sure enough it was pegged!

I pulled over real quick and opend the hood. She was real hot and i could hear the coolant boiling.

So i let her cool down so i could open the cap.
NOPE!! no coolant.

I poured a gallon in and started her up. She ran real rough for about two minutes. I was only three minutes from home.

I didn't get a chance to take a look untill the next morning.
Started her up and i could see the coolant pouring out right where the coolant hose fitting connects to the engine block.

Is there a gasket between the fitting and the engine? Or do you think i cracked the block?

I'll try and tear into it sometime this week. The only bad thing is all my tools are in storage so i will need to grab a bunch of tools from my father-in-law.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Theres no gasket between the hose and the engine. Sounds like the hose has a leak, in this case all you need to do is get a new hose, I think mine was around $14 at the stealership, its called the lower radiator hose (pipe to engine).

Good luck!

Oh and if you cant fix it right away, just wrap packing tape around it, should hold up for a while.

Thanks there cabbage. I checked the hose and its fine. Its actually coming from the fitting and the engine block.
I'll tighten down the bolts to see if that does anything.

Sounds like the waterpump is leaking. Does it still run rough? may have suffered some head gasket damage.

Hey there Daryl. Didn't you do a rebuild on Billys rig a while back?

I'll take a look at the pump too. When i started it up again it made alot of "whooshing" sounds like i had alot of air pockets in the radiator.
I'll try this weekend and remove the t-stat and see what that does. If that doesn't work i will move to the water pump.

So are you up for a rebuild if that doesn't work

Thanks

Update....
You nailed it Daryl. The water pump had fozen up. The smoke was coming from the timing belt trying to move the frozen pully on the water pump.
We replaced the water pump and timing belt. Started her up and she ran great untill yesterday

Now it looks like the radiator has a leak someplace near the bottom.
Searched around and the local yard wanted $125 for a used radiator.
I found this site:
http://www.radiator.com/
I will have a new radiator with a lifetime warranty in two days for $155.00.
Hopefully this will cure the leak.

Glad you found what was wrong, junk yards are such a rip off (at least here in Santa Maria...) you could buy new parts cheaper! Good luck on the radiator!
