Broken 1 wire switch, what is it?

I was changing the fuel filter today and I broke a little yellow 1 wire switch/sender that screws into the side of the block next to the oil filter. Check engine light came on after about a minute of driving after the broken switch. I thought it was the oil pressure sender but my oil pressure registers normal. This is on an 85 5speed 4runner 22re.

Yup that would be the knock sensor, probably a little down on power too.

I dunno but I think I have a good used one on my scrapped 86 22re. If you're interested let me know.

From Napa they are around $150. Did you actually break the sender in half or just the plastic makes up the plug? If its acually broken I would try a junk yard or wherever before going to the stealership.

I broke the little plastic piece that sticks out so you can plug the wire in. How much do you want for your used one? I'm cheap. I really don't want to spend that much money on a new one.

BTW, your right. It has no power and surges. The check engine light comes on about a minute after driving and until then it is fine. Then the light pops on and starts running like poo.

You definitly broke the knock sensor, I know this because we just broke mine while trying to pull the head and not seeing that wire attached to it. I got mine for dealer cost (dicount from friend that works there) $110 new.

PM or email a memeber of this board "Toyota Parts Dude" he has alot of parts and definitely has one for a 85 22re because I asked him for one and that is one he said he had, and it was inexpensive(I'll let him tell you how much, but it was cheap).

I'll take it. Sent you a PM and it said something about a receipt so I don't know if you got it or not.

Yeah the message you saw was asking you if you want to be notified that I received the message, I got it.

I sent your sensor out 20 minutes ago

I'll go get a money order and send it off to ya today. If you checked your PM's, went to a junkyard and pulled one off an old Celica for temp use. Just spliced the wires and it works.
