To box or not to cargo box ??

I can't decide on what type of carrier to use: a cargo-style, clamshell, or a basket style (thinking of the Thule MOAB)... What do you all use or recommend, and why? Advantages, disadvantages to both... Also, I'm thinking of adding some roof mounted lights... Is this possible with either configuration?

Thanks much for any help

S.

1999 SR5 4wd 4R 5spd. Factory roof rack, so far.

Alotta people run the Surco roof racks. Its a cargo-style basket. Its okay for holding lightweight items and gas-cans. It also has adapters for holding a hi-lift jack, spare and shovel.

its very lightweight too, which is cool.

I like the surco rack, the safari model... Are the Thule baskets steel or Aluminium? What is the Thule adapter the surco basket requires? I have a set of Thule 416 feet, will those work? With a set of Thule load bars?

Thx...
