Thinking of Stealing a local Chevy/Ford Idea.

So i am SICK of the way my stock exhuast sounds..

It sounds weak and under powered... So i'm thinking of stealing an idea many locals do to their 1500/f150 sized pick ups..

Basicly, you split the pipes before the cat, run 2 cats, and then just run pipes out the back. No muffle, just cats. You get a little sound dedening so it's not TOO loud to be illegal, but it sure does sound good..

I'm just sorta curious if any of u have tried and see what a 4runner sounds like w/ no mufflers... seeing it's a V-6 and not a V-8.

And if it turns out to be a No-No... Any one have any recomendations on a good deep sounding muffle that resonates and all that stuff. i just like that low rumble sound that sounds like a real truck

glasspacks sound great!..

I have a 2in catback into a glass pack muffler that sounds GREAT I can get youa vid if you would like.

It is hard to run duals with the spare tire just to let you know

Also this is VERY important. Cats will only work at the proper temperature..not too hot and not too cold. So you emissions will be affected by having two cats in two diffrent locations

I wouldn't recommend doing that. Like you said it is a V6 and not a V8, it won't sound the way a V8 does. I saw a kid around town with tacoma that was obnoxiously loud. I asked him what he had and he said it was straight piped. It did not sound good at all. Plenty of my friends have the Fords and Chevys with exhaust like that and some of them sound good, but the straight piped toyotas sound like a pissed off weedeater, as we like to say around here. I have the FM 40 series and it is not loud by anymeans, but I like the way it sounds. Good luck

Get a flowmaster 40, and no tailpipe... its pretty cool sounding, but apparently illegal for 4runners...not for Tacoma's though.

It's because the exhaust isn't supposed to come out under the cab. With the Taco, the cab ends at the bed. The 4Runner's bed doesn't end.

Yeah I have mine cut under the cab temporarily until I can get the time to re-route it to accomidate for the body lift. My dual exhaust looked quite funny sitting down 2" lower than it used to. I can definatley notice the exhaust fumes coming into the cab.
