For any of you guys who have done this I was wondering if you could help. I have the trd boost gauge and pod that I am installing on my 99 runner. How do you route the air line and lighting wires out the back of the pod and route them down to their connection points? The only way I can see is to remove the a pillar cover, drill a hole and route it out the back of the gauge and down to the connection points. However, it does not say to do this in the supplied TRD instructions. Any help on how you did it would be appreciated. Thanks!

 

I am not sure if the Runner is the same, but on my Tacoma, the gauge is mounted in a pod on the pillar. The pod covers the pillar all the way down to the dash. The tube is concealed behind the pod to the dash, then goes down beside the dash and out through a grommit in the firewall to a "T" on the back of the supercharger.

If your pod doesn't go all the way down to the dash, then do as you are describing and route it under the pillar trim, down to the dash.

 

Rob's got it... it's the same on the 4Runner.

If the pod doesn't go all the way down to the dash, then - like you say - you'll have to drill a hole and route the air line (and wiring for the backlight) behind the stock pillar cover downt o the dash.

The bottom line is to think a bit out of the box that the instructions draw around the problem and do what you see fit to make the install clean.

 

Thanks guys. The pod does go all the way to dash level so i think I can route it that way. However, the pod lies flush all the way around on the pillar. Did you notch the pod on the bottom "dash side" in order to allow for the wires and tube to pass through?

 

Ahhh... good!

My pod (not a TRD though) had enough of of a "lift" to it that the wiring & tubing fit in behind it. As you cinch down the screws, you should be able to leave it loose enough such that it doesn't pinch the air line, but it still holds fast to the pillar.

I think Rob's is a TRD pod, so he may be more useful at this point - I's only here to confirm that it works the same on the 4Runner as the Tacoma.

 

Mine had enough room behind it to route the hose if I was careful
