Well today i was helping my cousin clean out his warehouse and i found 4 20 lb CO2 tanks, He said he only needed one of them. So now i have 2 20 lb CO2 tanks. I would like to try and get them mounted in the back of the runner so i can run on a nice on board air system. What do i need to get in terms of regualators and such? Also how would you suggest mounting them? I have a wooden shelf i made that would work nicely but i dont think it would be such a good idea to have them mounted on their side. Anyway any imput is welcome. thanks.

 

One 20lb tank is plenty for me. Yes, IIRC the tank needs to be upright or liquid CO2 could go into the regulator and screw it up. If the tanks haven't been pressure tested in 5 years, you will have to pay to have them tested before filling them.

 

That is good to know about the pressure testing. Im sure they have been sitting for quite a while, but they have had pressure in them the whole time. When getting them filled, im guessing they need to be taken to special place or can they be filled at say lowes or home depot? Its going to take some tinkering to get them mounted the way i want i guess

 

it's called Hydrostatic test. no matter kept filled or empty CO2 vessels need to be tested every 5 years. most common place you can have them tested are the fire extinguisher shops. it ain't cheap. but, check if there is Airgas or Praxair sticker on your tanks. if so, you are in luck, just bring the old tank in for exchange, pay for the gas only, they will take care of the hydro test.

edit: when you take your tank in for a refill, make sure ask the counter let them check the valve, some CO2 tanks have a siphon type valve, meaning when the tank is sit upright, when valve is opened, liquid is coming out, not gas.
