Big engine problem

Big engine problem
Well, I had found some stuff that cleans the inside of your engine. It's the same stuff that Jiffy Lube or other places use to clean the injectors. My friend did this stuff to his ford and it worked fine. Well, I did this stuff to my engine. What you do is suck this stuff down a vaccume line and it then stalls the engine. After it does that you wait about 20 mins. before starting it up. I did that, but when I went to start it up... 3 loud CLANKS!!! . These arn't any little tapping, its like slamming a fricken hammer on a steel door. Well for the heck of it I tried to start it again, but this time it didn't turn over
. To make a long story short. I pulled the plugs and tried to get the crap out. No luck. It will turn over for a second or two, but then comes that clank again. I have no idea what happened. If anyone has any ideas to what happened that would be great.

Is it me or are there a lot of people posting about their 3.0L going to crap!!! I think there is 4 or 5 posts about peoples V-6 breaking. I guess that says a lot about the engine.

I would not say 3.0 V6's are going bad. Mine has been problem free for many years now. Don't blame the engine when you induce an item into it that is not meant to be there. Sorry, can't help you on this one oly884.

What a stupid thing to do. You sucked enough liquid into your engine to stop it???
It sounds like you hydraulically locked your engine and ruined it. There is likely some serious internal damage like a bent connecting rod.
Never, ever, pour a liquid into your engine.
Well lets hope you don’t need a new engine.

Don't go blaming the 3.0L's! I sold mine with 210,000 miles on it and it's still going strong. I never had anything beyond a radiator leak to complain about. Additionally, 2 other Toyotas that I sold (with 4 cylinders) had 178,000 and 215,000 miles with hardly more than preventive maintenance done to them. I think you'll find a lot more people boasting about their Toyota engines... It's just not as notable as when someone DOES have an infrequent problem or when they're cause...

...And if you really followed the directions, you probably can get the manufacturer to pick up the tab. But what a hassle...

I'm sorry to hear about that oly. I can only imagine your frustration. It sounds like it may have resulted in a broken valve(s) or cracked head(s) issue. Have it checked out, hopefully it's not too horrible & definitely talk to the guys who sold it to you.

Thanks a lot, accually I followed the directions on the bottle. Plus, like I said eariler, Jiffy lube does the exact same thing. Jiffy lube is one of those 10 min oil change places. I know what happens when you put liquid in an engine. The fact that I followed the directions and it still did this made me furious. Then, my friend did this also, and his truck started up just fine! Sorry if I sound pissed off Gadget, but considering I have only $400 and this WAS my only transportation, I don't really need to be told that what I did was dumb.

I will keep my fingers crossed that it is not that bad.

The only problem is, it still turns over for a few seconds then the loud clang. My uncle said that I could have broke a rocker arm.

Have you tried pulling all your plugs and cranking the engine to get any fluid that is in the cylinders out of the engine? Then try restarting it with the plugs back in.

yeah i already tried that, but thanks though. I might be able to take a loan from my parents to get a new engine. I've put a lot of work into the truck and I'll never see it go to parts unless it's totaled. Well, like they say, hindsight is 20/20.

Sorry to hear nothing's working. If it makes you feel any better this guy tried to use a cotton shirt as an air filter on his 3rd gen RX-7 and it got sucked into his turbos.

Well, I hope we have all learned a good lesson here. Actually a few: number one: never put anything in your engine that isn't normally in it for everyday operation. Two: You bought the stuff from a ford dealership, so never buy from Ford!! Sorry If I insult anyone who likes domestics, but I myself have seen much better reliability with import cars and trucks. Toyota makes some great vehicles, let's all be happy for that. Lesson #3 (most important) before attempting any work that strikes you as dangerous or harmful to your vehicle, ask for a second opinion. It takes very little time, won't hurt you one bit, and it may save you a lot of time, money, and effort.
