Big engine problem
#42
I have HEARD Oly, that the ehaders arent really the constricting point of the 3.0, its the intake/head....so search around a bit more, I know there a couple of other threads about 3.0 headers...but my guess would say no....but then again, I have the 3.4, so what do I know?
EDI: Wow, I also just realized how resurected this thread is....Im sure Oly has this all worked out by now. lol.

Wow, and wow. This thread is OLD.
Well, the truck that this happened to is now my brothers. This wasn't my taco that this happened to.
Anyways, what happened. Too much seafoam got sucked into the engine, and snapped the connecting rod on the #4 cylinder in half, and destroyed the entire inside of the engine quite well. I bought a new rebuild and put it in, it's still running with 25k miles on it.
Lesson learned, I'm not going to use seafoam. I'll let a shop do it, if they will replace my engine if it blows. I don't trust that stuff, but if people want to use it, completely fine by me!

I thought as I was reading through the posts that this did not sound like the confident Old timer Oly I knew of... once I saw the dates, I knew why. He was but a young baby Oly then...

Wow, very old thread, but what the heck, lot's of opportunity for learning.
What Oly was trying to do is called a "hot soak." I have done this on my 3.0 with Sea Foam, with good results.
You want to pick one of the vacuum lines that is on the passenger's side of the engine that goes into the intake manifold. You use this line to suck Sea Foam into the engine. But only let enough in to where you start to hear the idle go lower. Then lift the vacuum line out of the Sea Foam and let the engine recover.
As you get down the bottle, just before you run out, you let the Sea Foam get sucked in and let the engine stall. The stall is caused by an overly rich mixture, not hydrolocking. Then let it sit for 20 minutes. Then start it up and drive until you are no longer blowing blue smoke. Then change your oil and filter.
If you pick a vacuum line with too much capacity that doesn't go into the intake manifold two problems can happen.
1) You suck in too much liquid at once and get hydro lock
2) You don't end up dispersing the Sea Foam equally around the cylinders
You should not need to ever do this treatment if you use Techron or Sea Foam a couple of times between oil changes and keep your engine in good working order. My 3.0 has been pretty well maintained and I didn't get much crud coming out. It did help a bit, just not much.
Hope this helps,

Yup, #1 was what happened to me.
I was just a baby at that point, crazy to think it's been almost 4 years since that happened.
Needless to say, I've learned a lot since then, and payed dearly for my mistake.

Oly's gotten grouchy in his old age. At one time he was just a babe in the woods, now he's just really pissed off about everything.

Uh, did you look at the date of my first post? Did you happen to read these last couple posts? This happened almost 4 years ago now.

Yes I put a new motor in.
Yes I made threads all about it.
Yes it was a stupid mistake.
