Best place to get switched power for gauges?

Title says it all. I know I have many options but I am curious on what is the best or easiest alternative. I would like it to be in the engine bay for ease of access. I am hooking up two autometer gauges on my 85 toyota pickup.

Also does it matter which wire I splice into on the dimmer switch? There is a red and a black.

Thanks
Andrew

Well, I need to find a wiring diagram or atleast find someone that knows the wiring in the dash of an 85ish toyota pickup. From what I read I have a few options on what to tap into. Just not sure if there are certain ones that would be better than others. And it looks like having the power in the cab is the easier way to go. I have searched alot with no real luck so tommorow im going in blind with my install. I hate electrical so hopefully I dont mess anything up.
