Im putting my ATs on soon, and that set needs new valvestems. Would it be possible to debead the tire just where the valvestem is, reach in R&I hte valvestem, and somehow, WITHOUT LIGHTER FLUID, reseat the bead? The local place wants $60 to demount a tire, R&I a valvestem, and remount the tire, and that is without balancing.

I've used a high lift jack to break the bead before, but be careful, it is easy to ruin the bead, as you really can't tell how much force you are putting on it, and be especialy carefull as high lift jacks are dangerous in general, if it is really stubborn work your way around the tire gradually untill it breaks, breaking the outer bead should give you plenty of room to replace the valve stem, if you can't get it seated agian try wrapping a ratchet strap around the tire to hold it place

 

Uhg no hilift. Im gunna try this with a stock tire jack. I dont have to worry about any pressure in the tire, because the reason i need to replace the stems is a buddy of mine took a pair of snip to them while putting them in storage.

 

how about you make your buddy pay for them then...

 

if you use the stock bottle jack your gonna kill yourself.....



just take it to a tire place so you dont break anything else.

 

How about going and ripping through those fields like you're known to do on occasion?

thats funny, lol. You could just air them down all the way if they're not now, then mount them on the runner and turn into the tire. that should pop it off!

I want to actually use the wheel/tire pair. Ive only used them for a month, and 600 miles.

 

well there goes my 2nd idea of placing a small amount of explosives under the tire. Just save yourself the headache and take them down to your local tire shop and have them pop em off.

 

$60 a piece? They're high.

There's gotta be a place that'll do it cheaper.

for $50 i got my tires taken off my old wheels put on new ones and had them mounted and balanced and had my spare plugged up....

 

My valve stem was leaking on my car tire. The local station broke down the tire and put in a new one for $6.00. $60.00?

 

Yes, $60 is way too high, try a different shop. Should be like $15/tire and maybe a few more for the valve stem. Or grab one of these (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=34542) and do it yourself. I just changed out two tires with new valve stems with mine, paid $39 for it on sale.

I once had some snow tires mounted on some old rims at a local gas station. Went in late on a weekend afternoon, just a kid working there. He mounted and balanced the 4 tires and it was going to be $40 or so (about 20 years ago). I asked if they took credit cards and he said yes, but asked how much cash I had. I think I had like $12 with me, so that was what it cost.

 

I paid $20 to have my (5) 37/12.50/15 mounted last week and that was with (5) new valve stems.

 

It is $60 for the 4. But Id also have to pay for balancing.

 

umm I paid $95 to my local Goodyear dealer to do my MT/Rs. That inlcuded balancing.

$60 is the rate they gave the gangus because he told them to "just let physics do its thing"...wouldnt you charge him $60 too?? lol

 

You guys are getting ripped a new one. You should NEVER pay more than $15/tire for MOUNTING AND BALANCING.

As I said it cost me $20 to have my 37/12.50/15s mounted on my 15x8 rims, after they took the 35/12.50/15s off for NOTHING and then another $40 to balance all (5) tires.

Total for dismounting old 35/12.50/15s, mounting 37/12.50/15s on the same rims, AND balancing at a truck tire place
