Antenna nut and grommet....

A few "months" ago, when the weather was getting warmed up, I took my 97 4Runner out of my garage to go to work (hadn't driven 4Runner for a while due to too much road salt, I had been using my beater car for commuting...)

Driving on a local freeway as usual, I turned on the radio, then suddenly, sorta metal whipping metal noise was heard, then I noticed my antenna mast was falling from its' slot, oh sh@@t!, I couldn't stop, it was 75mph on freeway...

Anyway, when I arrived at work and immediately look at the antenna area, fortunately out of unfortune, the antenna mast was hanging there pointing down, actually, the zip was holding the antenna hole... I inspected the mast, it looks good and reusuable...

But the problem was, where are all those nut and grommets ????

Searching through the forums, it looks like I have to buy whole antenna assembly??? But, everything else seems fine, motor is rolling, and the antenna mast + zip look good to use.. Anybody knows where I can find those nut and grommets???

Thank you

You could try bringing the antenna to the junk yard and look for other vehicles which might use a similar antenna (both Toyota's and other makes). I don't know of anyone that sells just the nut and grommets but that doesn't mean there isn't one. I had the antenna on mine come loose because the L-shaped bracket inside the fender well broke off. I had to pull the kick panel and the fender well to repair the damage......works fine now though.

I'd try to find out the name of the antenna manufacturer and see if they can provide the nuts and grommets. Most companies worth their weight would send you that type of stuff at no charge.

For something like a "nut" and "grommet" they will want to sell you the whole assembly as supplying you with just the parts means that there is an assembly somewhere that is incomplete because you've got the fasteners, so it makes sense for them to do business that way.

Again, hit the auto salvage/junk yards, they are your best bet.

Or at least, nut?
anyplace sells only nut?
(there is no local junk yard in close distance... moreover, not sure if I can find the nut or not.... )

I really don't want to replace the whole unit because the unit itself seems working fine.. (moreover, it costs $$$ ....)

Thank you

I have the same problem, except someone stole mine. I lost it before and just got one at a salvage yard but this time around both the them and the dealer will only sell me the whole mast. if i find one along with mine ill let you know.

I had the same problem with my 96.

The dealer sells them , and usually have them in stock. Dont waste your time at a junk yard.

I think I picked up the nut and grommet for under $10.

Just go to the parts guy and show them on their computer screen what your are looking for. I know they sell them seperately, because I bought them seperately.

They came individually packaged too, so if they try to tell you that you have the buy the whole thing , say thats bullÅÅÅÅ cause you know a guy who bought it seperately damnnit!

eheh

SC

thank you for your suggestion!
per your advice, I called almost all available local Toyota dealer and found that some of them sells "only" nut and grommet, anything I call for.....

Very interesting is their price... 12 bucks for nut and 13~14 bucks for grommet etc... Moreover, even though those dealers are "local", it is 50miles distance local........

I will keep looking for any reliable internet seller... I really want to avoid driving 50+50 (100miles round trip) ONLY to pay for 12 bucks nut and 14 bucks grommet...

If anyone can suggest me a good web dealer, it will be really great.

Have a nice day!
