So I'll do my best to describe this problem...

Long story short the 4Runner was stolen and the roof damaged.

Went to body shop and had it fixed.

Roof had two antenna mount holes in it.

One was a CB mount which had the mount removed and the bare hole exposed.

Second was a Scanner mount which is not used anymore.

Scanner mount was not removed (as the CB mount was) and they masked it TERRIBLY.

I removed the tape and peeled off a portion of paint with it.

I pulled the mount and it looks nasty.


It's a 5/8ths hole.

I want a super secure, weather proof, and nice looking plug for the roof.

I can't find anything.

I've settled on trying to modify a 1/2 or 5/8ths carriage bolt and rubber washer to act as a plug, but before I settle completely on it I want to know if anyone here knows of anything that might work for me.

Firestick has antenna plugs, but they're little plastic nothings.

I want something that can be effectively bolted together and last forever.

Anything that you guys have seen and can link to would be appreciated.

Anything you've personally fabbed to act as a waterproof plug would be nice.

what about the plugs cars use for drainholes and firewall plugs? im sure you could easily find those....

 

If you are looking for a permanent plug use a grommet (Home Depot or Lowe's in the electrical section) and seal it up in the hole with silicone (paint aisle), it'll be there long after you are dead and gone.

Just kidding, thanks for the responses.

I'm not all the partial to a grommet. I want metal, and threads, and a crazy looking bolt up there. Something I could pick the car up with... were the roof able to support it.

I'm thinking I'll be trying to make my carriage bolt idea work. Epoxying the bolt and washer together, then adding a bit of black silicone to the rubber washer on both sides, etc. The headliner is torn open, so I have total access to the underside.

And as for a pic, you guys should know I'm not badass enough to do that. I have neither the technical knowledge nor the webspace to grant such a simple yet far-fetched request.

Then get a piece of 10 gauge steel and a welder.

 

Instead of just a bolt, you should put a hook up there. Then set up your driveway with some steel cable and an pulley arrestor system at the right height. Then you can go zooming in to your driveway at 60 MPH and not drive through the garage.
