Another "What does this plug go to?" question.

I was putting in a head unit this morning and I saw these two plugs. I think one is for an antenna (even though there is an antenna is plugged in to the new head unit) and I have no clue what the white one is for. I don't know if I inadvertently unplugged it or what. Thanks for the help.

Do you have a 2nd gen 4Runner? Not 100% sure but it almost looks like the plug that goes to the clock.

Nope. It's a 3rd gen (97) and the clock is plugged in. Everything works fine and there is not cel. I just don't know.

Well hopefully Ron Helmuth will see your post and chime in. He's got a 3rd gen, is a wealth of knowledge and might be able to help you out.

The white squarish looking connector- plugs into the back of the radio bezel-near the clock-I'm not 100% sure but I believe it's the wiring connector for the rear window operation.-Beware there are 2 places that connector will fit-one is a dummy plug receptacle and does nothing-so test all your functions before spending all the time to snap back in the bezel.

The other antenna connector male plug is your diversity antenna plug-the antenna embedded in your passenger side cargo area glass that resembles defroster grid wiring. Some of us have "adapted" that plug to serve as the only antenna or used a Y connector to combine the 2 antenna plugs. Member "Rockslide" has a most excellent writeup on this-and it's a good time to add a toggle switch for manual control of your power antenna if so equipped.

Just a tip JBurt- if you put some details of your vehicle within your signature it saves those prelim questions of what vehicle is being discussed. But your avatar picture helps with that also.

Michael1963- thanks dude!

That white plug goes to the radio amplifier (that silver box in the background in your pic) and it plugs into the back of the stock radio. I removed the amp when putting my head unit in because it was in the way.

Ron that is some fantastic info. I just read through that thread and though I would put a link to it just to see if it helps someone else. It is here. Thanks for the help guys. Thanks tunnel I guess I should tear out my stock amp too while I'm at it. I was going to do the whip antenna mod (my mast is missing but the motor still works) but this looks way easier and more beneficial. I like the idea of having the antenna mast on a switch. Fantastic!

glad to help-sorry for my confusion on the white plug. That RockSlide is a great member and I was so glad to have seen that post-thanks for linking the thread.

My antenna just stays down all the time now. The rear window antenna gets perfectly acceptable reception for my needs.
