Just a quick question. Is there a difference between an 85 and 93 22re oil pump. The 85 is the "newer" style block on the 85.

The 93 is 8 years newer. Sorry it has been one of those weeks!!!

I am sure there are differences .

But the overall dimensions and fit should be the same.

As cheap as oil pumps are you are not thinking of using a used one??

No not using a used/old one. I had a nib DNJ pump for my old 93 that I never installed. When I redid the timing chain on my 85 I slapped it on and she ran with great oil pressure for a few days. Now I have virtually no pressure at idle and above 2k rpm's it's normal. Ideas?

I'm just not quite ready to build my new motor.

Contact the dealer and compare part numbers. It obviously bolted, on and provided the port diameters were they same and aligned the same then I would have to assume it is not the pump, but a clogged port.

Do you have sufficient oil to the rockers or is the low pressure determined by an external pressure gauge?

Are you using a Mechanical Gauge or the factory one

The just what are your numbers at idle normal is around 5PSI

It does seem low like you have problems but that seems normal

Could also be just the new pump wearing in.

A good manual gauge will tell the story.

Factory gauge. I know they are not the most accurate. But my local parts store didn't have what I needed. I need to do some research and just order one online.

I am basin my low oil pressure on the fact that when first installed the rockers were very quiet. When pressure hanged the valve clatter is noticeably louder till my pressure comes up. If it is a clogged port would seafoam or similar product help clear the port?

I know from experience it is a real pain to get the oil pan off.

So did the oil pick up tube maybe vibrate loose enough that your sucking air??

Which would mean not enough volume of oil is being pumped .

230,000 Miles know way of knowing the bearing clearance that could be some of the reason.

Timing chain tensioner could also be leaking

Internal oil leaks are so much fun as nothing is leaking that is visible nor does the level drop.

Sending unit giving a false reading from oil being behind the diaphragm

a few things to ponder on.

I don't believe I loosened the strainer. I looked at my old notes and remembered to rotate the pan towards the passenger side to clear the strainer. I also jacked up the frame to give me enough room between the axle and the oil pan. As far as the top end goes I did not touch it. It is still stock from Toyota. The PO had Toyota do all the maintence on it. I just have to get this motor to last anothe 5-10k miles. I should have my new motor built by the end of summer.

If it is a clogged oil port would a seafoam like product help clear that out?

I assume the bearings on the rockers were installed properly. It's from Toyota. So I have not screwed that area up. Yet...

Sea foam may work although I discourage the use of it personally. Bearing oil port location is critical if that is what you are dealing with.

OK so it is leaking from the timing cover lightly. I do not think it is enough to cause my major fluctuations on its own. I believe I may have a plugged oil port that is doing more of it than anything else. I don't need this motor to last forever but I needs at least 6 months to a year. If seafoam doesn't solve it. Any other ideas besides a teardown.
