Another New Mod for a Gen 3

Well I started another new mod on my Gen 3. I decided to install the door lights that were on the Gen 2 4Runners. They were the red safety lights located in the the lower door panel below the door pull. I picked up a pair and a trashed door panel to experiment with and I can say with some degree of statisfaction, it will work!

This is the configuration of the Gen 3 door panels:

Here this is what the door panel will look like with the door light installed:

I can route the power through the door pillars along the harness for the door power and tie the door lights into the switch for the doors thatturns on the interior lights. Should be a fun mod. Tell me what you think?

I like it!

Only I prefer clear, over red.

Definitely badass, I would go with clear over red then put some white LED's in there!

Yes White would be the best bet, but remember, Toyota mounted those lights for safety when you opened your door, primarily at night, the light is visable. If I can find replacement lense covers that are clear, I will replace them. I did find a second set of leather door skins in case I decide later to revert back. But after doing all the work, wiring and hook up, I may just have to leave them installed and with red lenses. thanks guys

Only real issue I see with the mod so far is going to be the routing of the wires and hooking into the interior lighting circuits so they come on at the same time you open the door. Getting the lenses in the right location will be a slight issue but I think for the most part I have that worked out. The test cut wasn't too difficult. The plastic is fairly pliable with a sharp utility knife, just have to be careful and not get in a hurry.

The next issue will be if I can find any replacement lenses that are clear. I do not know of any Toyota lenses that would fit the door lights. One thought I had was to find a suitable donor lense, then cut out a center section of the red lense then glue in a new clear lense center section. This would provide both some white light for interior lighting as well as a bit of red when the door is opened. Any suggestions?
