Maybe I am an idiot and don't know how my car works but why is it that about 50% of the time when I try to unlock my car with the key the alarm goes off? It seems to me that if you have the CORRECT key for the car and attempt to unlock it.... the door should open WITHOUT the alarm going off. Am I missing something?

Its the alarm mode, my old camry had the same issue till I shut it off. Unless you use the clicker when opening the door the alarm will go off. You need to turn on valet mode.

Thanks. One question though... how do I do that? lol (its a 99 btw.. just in case)

Well for my camry there was a section in the manual about it. Some kinda key sequence iirc, like put key in acc and hold valet button down or something..

The alarm should go off 100% of the time if its armed and you try to open it with the key.

CJM if you know how or where I could find instructions on how to turn on valet mode that would help alot. I tried the manuel but I didn't find how to turn it on. I also tried checking some other websites and found one that had instructions but when I tried the process it did not work. Any suggestions? (i guess i could answer that myself by saying take it to a dealer)..
