Airbox Intake Question

Airbox Intake Question
The 97 4runner 3.4L I bought had an aftermarket air intake installed. They removed the air box, where the filter sits and clamped on a generic K&N filter to end of the MAF. I'm in the process of removing the intake and installing an OEM airbox I picked up form a junkyard. To the left of the airbox, there is a hole in engine bay leading to the fender well and a 90° elbow running into the fender well. When I installed the airbox there is 2-3inch gap between the box and the elbow. I have to assume these is a small piece of pipe I am missing but can find no mention of it on any parts diagrams I have seen. Every part diagram I have seen shows the 90° elbow connecting directly to the airbox. The elbow on my 4runner is flush with the hole between the engine bay and the fender well. Anyone have any insight on this or pictures to show how that connection is made?
Thanks for the help!

Thanks for the pictures! My airbox had the molded tube headed to the fender well. Looks like what I am missing, at the least, is the escutcheon that bolts to the engine bay wall. What is weird is I don't see that part on any of the parts diagrams.

Hm, yeah that's annoying. I'm lucky to have a good parts guy at my nearest dealership. If you've got a good one, sometimes going in and working with them is best. I definitely found that helpful when I was looking for things like OEM bolts and other stuff like that, which can sometimes be impossible to find in parts catalogues.
So damn many otherwise perfect trucks were crushed during the frame recall days, I think there's always going to be a shortage of junkyard parts for these trucks...

I am pretty lucky in the used parts department. There are something like 8-10 u-pick type junkyards within a 20 minute drive for me and there is another 8-10 salvage yards that pull the parts for you. There is 5-6 3rd gens to pick through at the u-pick yards.

The PO to my truck also swapped out to a K&N CAIK, but he was nice enough to save all the Oe parts and gave them to me in a box. If you can’t find the elbow you’re looking for, I can dig thru the garage and try to find my air box.

That's super nice of you. I reached out to a local 4runner slavager who is sending.me the parts. I'd they don't end up working out I'll hit you up.
