99 Ltd - need help with my power moonroof

My moonroof doesn't quite come flush with the roof sheet metal on the front edge of the roof when you close it. It sits about a 1/4 inch below the edge all along the front.

*** EDIT if you've removed the moonroof assembly before, please let me know!*****

Other than that it functions fine but it's collecting water when it rains hard which is a pain! It appears there is something that should let the sunroof rise up as it closes on the front side.

Can someone take some pics of their power moonroof with it open? (close pics of the tracks maybe?)

thnx fellas,

lbrowne

that crap is all adjustable

I don't have the diagrams with me but basically
open it up and poke around you will find the things
and partz that can adjust it. you can adjust forward, aft, side to side.

Since I have the headliner out anyways I wanted to remove the sunrood assembly - but the mother^!%&#%! is held by something that lines up with the center pillar between the front and back door on the passenger side. I have all the bolts out and the sunroof assemble wants to drop down except in this one spot.

Anyone take the assembly out before?

kinda sorta

the bolts accessible from under the headliner are to bolt the thing in, not adjust

the 'adjustments' are all from the top. pull out some of the
covering plastic and you can access the drive rail adjustment bolts

I knew those bolts only hold the sunroof in, but I have a buckle in my sheetmetal that I'm going to fix real quick since I already had the headliner out. (and it's easier to get at with the sunroof removed.

But this clip or whatever it is is keeping me from removing the whole assembly. This part should be for another thread.

I appreciate the suggestion on the adjustment btw! Thanks, lbrowne

Thanks for the pdfs! Much appreciated.

However it makes no mention of this clip or whatever it is that is holding this darn thing in place. I have all the bolts outand the whole darn thing wants to drop out except something near the passenger side B-pillar is keeping it up!! argh!

No probs. Sorry they weren't any help with the B-pillar track. You should pick the brains of your dealership service manager.

This is old but still relevant. You are talking about the one-way 'push nut' or guide lock. It is a square piece of stainless sheet that has cone shaped fingers pointing downward. As the sunroof frame is lifted into place, the push nut fingers grab onto a fixed bolt sticking down from the ceiling. This holds up one side of the frame during assy and helps align it. The push nut is captive on the sunroof frame and cannot be unscrewed. You have to use a pointy tool like an awl or mechanical pick/probe to bend/pry the push nut fingers down. Most people do this. Another way is to use a drill or dremel to remove the push nut fingers. You will want to leave some frame bolts in place for support but loose enough to see the frame lower as the push nut releases.
