My light for the lcd backlight on the climate control is burnt out? It seemed like half of the display was lite up for awhile but now its not illuminated at all. Can you replace the bulbs to relight the lcd has anyone done this before? How do you get the wood trim piece off to access the bulbs? thanks

 

Do a search on here for Limited Temp Control or similar things. This is a very commoon problem, and so far as I know, they only way to fix this is A. Have it taken apart by an electronic specialist and repaired (can't just replace the bulbs in 10 secs, they are soldered in) or B. Pay the $800 for a new one.

Bulbs cost a few bucks a piece, and though it doesnt take 10 seconds it should only take about 10 minutes. And they are not soldered in.

 

thanks for the help link to the crappled pic thread its great, but in the first step to remove the black cupholder piece do you need to remove the center glove box or just open the door so the cupholder piece lifts up past it??

 

Just flip the lid open

 

pull console open

pull out climate control

pop lid off, there is a circuit board with 4 bulbs, 2 sizes

dealer sells them in little bags.

the only bulbs which are soldered in, are the LED's which light up the buttons,
but the climate control display is regular old school bulb...rather small ones

all you have to do is flip lid up on center console arm rest,
pop center console from there up to ashtray, then pop front console away

 

I just replaced all 4 bulbs in my climate control on my 99 limited 2 weeks ago. Only 2 of the 4 were burned out, but it made no sense to open it back up anytime soon to replace the other two. I followed the same instuctions in the above post and it was pretty easy. I only disconnected the plugs for the climate control and I was still able to wiggle it out to make the change. Less things you take apart the less likely you are to break something. I had to buy the bulbs at the dealership for a nice cost of $7 each.

 

I replaced my sister's bulbs a few weeks ago with white LEDs. If you go the LED route, you need to get two Type A neo wedge bulbs and two type B neo wedges. You can get them from this website:

Just scroll down to the neo wedge bulbs. They are $3 a piece and will last a lot longer than the normal bulbs.

Is the procedure the same on a '99 SR5 5 spd? How many bulbs are there and what are the part numbers? Only my A/C button is lit, with no backlight on other controls (rotary temp control / fan control)
