99-02 SR5 bumper

im thinking about switching my bumper on my 96 runner for a 99 sr5 bumper...im concerned that the holes might not line up and that there wouldnt be enough wire to reach the turn signals because the new bumper has the new turn signals a few inches lower...any thoughts? has anyone done this conversion??

thanks,
-matt

99+ use a different mounting plate than earlier 3rd gens. That is why we get to choose from TJM, TJM, or TJM for bolt on aftermarket bumpers. Most have to cut or grind the plates off to use an ARB or earlier TJM bumper.

You would have to fab a plate to have all the mounting points.

Hey Matt,

I heard of someone did just that, so it is possible, but I dont' remember who it was. I think it was "Nothing's Limited", but I could be wrong. My stock '00 bumper is for sale, in case you're interested. Details are on my page.

It is possible, but it will cost you well over $1,000.

Why not just add the PP front spoiler?

I would agree with Jason, the PP spoiler would be hassle free and less expensive but still looks really good!

Dang Jason, your 4Runner looks bada$$ with the fog in the background.
I have a picture of my 92 in the mountains with really heavy snow fall in the background. I wish I had a means to put it in the "Reader's Rigs" section.

Jason do you mean it will cost 1,000 for the bumper for 1,000 for parts all together? And I cant bolt the new bumper right on?

It just doesn't bolt right on. Things need to be moved, etc. It would probably end up costing about $1500-$2,000 total. My favorite front end design is 96-98 with the PP spoiler added. You also get the large 4" driving lights.

That price is exaggerated... It should only cost you the price of the bumper, and maybe $100 for someone to weld on the endplates. No where near $1000.

I have to disagree, well from at least one person told me they paid. I would also be afraid of getting into an accident with this setup and what the insurance company would do. That could get tricky depending on who you are dealing with.

Hey SpecializedBrder,
Why don't you just get the 99-01 grill, headlamps, tail lights, Mr Burtman clear corners and bumper lenses and the PP spoiler. All of it is swap and bolt on.

Gee. The above items sound just like what Jason's has on his rig.

It seems to be too much trouble to swap bumers:pat: Your rig looks very cool Jason w/ the chrome 96-98 bumper and that spoiler. Ive got the black right now and there is a large dent in it and the little metal piece below the light bent in and the fender curled in a little.(looks much worse in person and the bumper is very chipped unlike the rest of the vehicle):eek:Dent I was surprised it would cost that much to get the bumper put on. SR5 bumper They guy in the auction said he was swapping it for his 98 bumper because he likes the style better. i'd be curious to know how he did it.
So I guess is settle for a chrome bumper and get clear corners and clear turn signals. I found a decent deal here You can also get the multi reflective headlights for 150$ and the hood w/ hood scoop for 150$. The site shows an sr5/base bumper and a limited bumper i dont know what the difference is.

Wow, those are some great prices on the headlights and chrome bumper. I would ignore the limited and sr5 bumper description. Just make sure you get the CHROME one.

Headlights install write-up on my 4Runner site in the pics&vids section.

After you add those you will want to upgrade your front corner lenses so they match the see-thru heads. I do sell these as well as the bumpers:
