Thats hard to answer. It depends on the trails. Some areas are harder than others.

I have to say maybe 6 with open diffs, 8 or 9 with locked rear

I agree with Ryan, a 7, a 9 with rear locker.

Hmmm that is a hard question to answer...before we talk about the vehicle, lets talk about the driver! I know people who could not crawl themselves out of a sandbox with a fully locked and lifted Runner. All in all the 4Runner cannot be beat in my opinion for off-roadablity. Even a stock Runner could accomplish more that some modified rigs out there. That is just my opinion!!

if its a 4x4, I'd say about an 8. I have done quite a bit of off-roading and have only been stuck once because of a trench that high centered me. A locking diff would be real nice. Mine is almost stock in terms of off road. just have better tires. I have a friend who got a new wrangler and i have pulled him out several times with it.

Compared to all other bone stock vehicles out there besides the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and perhaps a Land Rover Discoverey the 4Runner with a rear locker is the most cabable offroader out there. If you do minor tweaks like removing the running boards the only stock vehicle that will beat it without taking body dammage is the Jeep Rubicon. I think the Rubicon is like $6000 more and will carry less than half of the gear and has way less passenger room as well. The Landy will carry the same ammount of people or stuff but might cost 2x as much as a slightly used Runner with a locker.

On a scale of 1 to 10 compared to the other stockers on the market, when price and cargo room is figured into the consideration, the 4Runner with an electric locker gets a 10.

This summer I was running the Rubicon with Marlin Crawler and the guys from TTORA when Marlin and I ran into some Jeep engineers testing out a couple of pre-production Jeep Rubicons. Well shortly after we meet them one of the engineers high centered the Rubicon with both diff's locked and it just sat there with all 4 wheels were spinning. Marlin pulled out the Jeep and did his best to restore the engineers egos. So with that in mind I think that a stock 4Runner with a rear locker and a Jeep Rubicon with lower ground clearance and dual lockers are close to equals when it comes to stock offroad capability. Now when build quality, relibility....

I was talking to a mecanic who worked on site landrovers and hilux pick-ups and he said thet he had to carry about £8000 worths of spares for the landrovers and about £50 for the hilux as all they ever needed was oil , filters , and wheel studs.
That and the discovery is very un reliable and is always breaking down which is why they give you free cover for that.
