98 Tacoma Stock replacement Leaf springs.

I'm trying to get ahold of the best replacement for stock rear leaf springs on a 98 extended cab tacoma. The springs broke so I am going to put on new ones for each side. What is the best route to go? I'm afraid Toyota OEM is going to be insanely expensive. Wanted to post before I went and had a set made at my local driveline shop. Remember, stock size no lift.

Deaver, National, Alcan all make custom springs. I've had good results with a few pair of Alcan springs I've had, they can make whatever you want. Or get some springs off a later model Tacoma in the junkyard. I think Toyota upgraded them after a certain model year.

springs

I dont think they upgraded to well.My 2002 dbl cab sags from having a topper on it after only 18,000 miles.It droped 1.5 inches over time.I just put airlift bags on it.The springs are cheap mexico products.Says it on the springs.Stay away from national spring.I paid 450 for the junk.It started sagging after only six months on one side.If you broke a spring sounds like you need heavy duty ones.

The critical thing to consider when getting new springs made is to get an accurate weight for the vehicle (look up "Public Scales" in your local phone book), and specifically broken down by axle. Then you can give the spring mfg. the weight the spring is to carry and if you have any extra load and lift requirements, give them that info as well. I've done this for both sets of Alcan Springs (http://www.alcanspring.com/) I've used and they have delivered what I have ordered. And I abuse the springs, doing things like this to them:



Also make sure to get anti-wrap leaves or a good overload leaf to prevent axle wrap, as that is what will kill a set of springs faster than anything else.

4Crawler, and Humanoid thanks for the replies. I'm going to check out the links right now. I have a friend who's mom rocks a Tacoma so I of course was the first candidate to to the leaf replacement on her 98 taco. It's tough finding stock spec leaf springs!

Oh one more thing, the Tacoma I'm replacing the springs on is driven by my friends mother so the leaf packs need not be lifted nor heavy duty. Just looking for some quality stock like ride for least amount of money.

I used the wheelers five leaf on mine when I broke a spring, they were a little stiff originally and gave about 1.5" of lift, but they settled to a nice height and ride, it looks good with a stock vehicle.

Deaver. I replaced mine with 200 miles on my truck and I dig em. I think for all round driving and knowing that I can run in the dirt without hesitation is worth it. Cant go wrong.
