Question 91 4 runner 22RE hesitation

I have a 91 4runner with 22RE and automatic trans. It hesitates when i punch the accelerator. It does it more when its cold, but keeps doing it even after it warms up. I changed plugs and wires which made no diff. When I advance the timing to where it pings then the hesitation goes away and it seems to have a little more power.

Anybody knows the problem might be?

1. fuel filter
2. injectors
3. check valve lash
4. clean throttle body/ check air filter
5. turn 3 times and whisper "ali shabaz" toward engine

Those are the first things I would scope out... maybe someone else will chime in and give a few more suggestions.

Oh, check the o2 sensor/ sensors as well, do you get a check engine light?

Post TPS

I bet the problem is a bad or misadjusted TPS. Here is a great site on the TPS. At the bottom of the page it describes the symptoms. Hesitation is listed there.

Good Luck

no code

Engine Light never comes while driving and no code is stored. My guess would be if the tps was out it would have a code.

I have also thought it might be the injectors. I will flush them one and see what happens.

Actually AgRunner has a good suspect as well... The tps out of adjustment wouldn't throw a code/ check engine light. In my experience w/ 22re I always check fuel filter first on hesitation, and back the timing off... you don't want all that pinging

Oh yes I changed the fuel filter but not diff. I think its running lean especialy at idle. I read up on the temp sensor and I think its probably the problem. Also I will flush injctors.

Thanks for the help
