My mom had a blazer with the 4.3 in it. I killed it one day while I was driving it. She didnt drive it hard and it only had a little over 100k on it. All i can tell you is that my 4runner (3.4L 5spd) feels like it has more power and feels alot faster too. Oh yeh, I plan on this engine lasting alot longer than 100k. If you need to swap a Chevy motor i would just go all out and do the 350. The 4.3 only puts out 190 hp. Why not just get a 3.4 Taco engine?
Just my .02

Depends what type of 4.3 you want. TBI, CPI, SPFI...different HP, different price. I'm just finishing a rebuild on a 95 vortec for my 4runner. Whatever you think it will cost, add an extra 50 percent. V8's are nice but they are bigger/heavier and I had cooling problems with the last one I did.

The better 4.3s make more than 200hp, and they should make more torque than the 3.4L, you can also get superchargers and stuff for them, as well.
Personally I would look at the Vortec...I think it's 5800 or 5700? It has around 345hp/400+lb/ft torque, quite a step up from the 4.3 let alone the 3.4L. THey are newer than a lot of the 4.3s you will find, as well, so they should be in good shape. The only thing is, the nice ones cost as much as a 3.4L

I personally will never be swapping my 3.4L Toyota engine for any other GM engine. I need the car which I can drive and rely on. After all, that's the reason why I got my 4Runner in the first place.
