Question 30,000 service

Yep, it was that time...

Spent all day in a Ford Escort because of it too

Anyhow, I get back my truck and the guy tells me that I'll need to clean my fuel injectors soon - possibly at 45,000. Maybe sooner if I do a good amount of off-roading.

Anyone have any recommendations?

Also, looking over my service sheet I see that the have some recommendations for additional services:

- MOC Fuel Induction System Cleaning Service w/ Zmax

- MOC Transmission Flush Service w/ Zmax



Should I just buy the Zmax kit and do this all myself (the fuel injectors are included in this, right?)
Or does anyone have any better suggestions?

Someone there mentioned maybe some type of additive (ex. STP) every 3 tanks of gas?

Besides... what in the heck does MOC stand for?

Just in case anyone was wondering, I took my truck to a local dealership and for $275 + change they did the following:

- Change engine oil
- Replace oil filter
- Drain and refill transmission
- Clean lube and adjust brakes (5mm frt, 5mm rear)
- Rotate tires
- Install MOC Battery pads
- Replace air filter
- Replace coolant (drain and refill only)
- Replace spark plugs
- Replace differential fluid

Inspect and bring to specification the following fluid levels:
- Battery
- Power steering
- Master cylinders
- Coolant
- Add MOC windshield washer fluid

Inspect and assess condition of the following:
- exhaust system
- steering system
- belts and hoses
- suspension system
- windshield wipers

adjust and/or verify the following
- tire condition (worn :pat: )
- tire pressure

I ran some "Gumout" or whatever the ˟˟˟˟ that ˟˟˟˟ is through the 4R the other day, it actually seemed to make a little bit of difference. Nothing fantastic, but it "felt" a little smoother. I spend enough time in the car to be able to tell when it's running better, I think. It could have been my imagination though. Either way, it didn't hurt anything.

ya know...my stereos so loud that i cant even tell how the truck is runnin......ill have to check that out sometime...im sure its fine.

I don't trust dealerships at all, i've seen them tell me they've replaced things and i check myself and it hasnt been done, IF i take it to a dealer for service i put a mark on anything that they're going to replace so its easier to tell if they actually did the job or not.

Agreed, there aren't too many honest mechanics out there anymore. Well, maybe more like a few that happen to have the most visible shops anyway.

I figure when I have to sell/trade my truck it'll be easiest when I can tell them that all the engine work was done by myself OR by a dealership.


As far as additives go... I ran the search and saw the negative comments on ZMax. Does anyone suggest any specific additives like STP or the like?

Regarding additives, try BG44K. It's supposed to be some of the best stuff out there, but it's about $20 per bottle. I know Corey uses it twice a year and I'm going to try it as soon as I have a long trip planned. Try searching around tacoma territory and ODW for first hand experiences. You might have a hard time trying to find it, although, some people say they can get it from the dealer.

I'm not sure what MOC stands for, but I thought it was just a brand name, not an acronym for an additive. Alot of dealers used to use BG44K, but now use MOC.

The company that makes BG44K is

BG Products. You can look up a local distributor on their site, then just call the distributor to find a local retailer.

Bg products are the ˟˟˟˟!! I remember when I was a technician at a Toyota dealership I was driving a 79' supra. This was like 15 years ago. When Bg was coming onto the market, the guy trying to get us to use it wanted a "test" car. Mine was running a little rough which I couldnt find the answer too. Man, he did an injector flush and that thing ran like new. I just bought a new can for my Rx300 last week. I put a can of 44k in all my vehicles at 15k.

I think it just goes to show what kind of business dealers run with all of the different prices on the same service. Why isn't there any sort of regulated amount? I paid $375 or something for my 30k.

Speaking of which, I got a flyer in the mail the other day telling me it's time for my 45k service... wtf? I just got my 30k done not too long ago, what else would they want to do? Does anyone have any ideas on what this service entails and whether or not it's necessary or something I could just do on my own over a weekend?

When you get your fuel injection system cleaned @ Toyota here's what they do. First they clean your throttle body w/ cleaner. Then they pull one of your vaccum lines and suck in this ammonia smelling stuff through your intake manifold. This cleans the combustion chamber. Truck will smoke while your doing this. Last but least they add a bottle of injector cleaner to your gas tank.
