Hi,
I'm looking to get this swap done (not by me)... I have to see how much it will cost me. What are the parts that I will need to buy. Reading some info on it it seem that people have different opinions.

I have found a 96 3.4L at a low price for me 93 Truck (manual).

I know I'll need :
Engine
ECU
Wiring Harness

What else should I add...

I guess nobody did that swap

 

Have you tried the search function? I personally have posted a lot of info on this exact swap as have many others. There is a lot of great info ut there you just have to look. Also try the 4x4wire.com forums a few guys over there pioneered this swap. Off-Road Solutions in Colorado makes a great selection of kits for this swap ranging from just a wiring harness to everything you need so call Mike and pick his brain and at least get their wiring harness kit because that is the hardest part to do on your own.

Yeah I have read those posts. the only thing is some say you need to buy one thing like exemple flywheel and in another post they say they used the same flywheel. Anyways I'Lll have to do it to see what will happen.

What are the differences between years of the 3.4L. Will it be easier to convert if I get an older model (ex: 1996) ??

 

You are right, quite a few people did their own wiring.

The major changes happened in 99, so 96-98 are basically the same motor and 99-02 slightly different.
Not sure either would be easier to convert but the older motors might be cheaper with more parts available.

 

There's gobs of info out there on that swap. The ORS webpage tells you pretty much everything you need to know. If your a wiring genius you can mabye do your own harness. I know I would'nt want to do it though.

 

I got the 96 motor !! but now no ecu and harness... for ecu do i have to get more then a 96 manual ECU... ? the guy from toyota told me theres alot of options.

 

I would suggest to pick up an ECU from the same model year if at all possible (at least 96-98).
If you have a 96 manual ECU, you should be just fine.

 

You need an ECU that matches the motor. So yes ideally you would use an ECU from another 96 manual but like Jaime said, you might be able to get away with an ECU from a 97-98 also.

I might have an extra wire harness I can get rid of. Its out off a 1997 Limited 4Runner. I got the engine, but the harness is different from mine cuz of 4wd, so i should have a complete extra harness, let me know if you want it.

 

I have a 96 engine. I don't know if it will be ok.

In the Toyota factory service manuals is your best bet. You will need both manuals for the donor and your truck.

 

yeah I know but I think toyota sells it for 300$. Someone (I can,t remember where) said he paid ona website and got it from there...(download).
