3.0 sr5 v6 performance options?

I already know that these motors are pigs and not really too good with accepting most mods, but I just wanna do a few things to pep this engine up a bit. Here is the list of mods I'm planning on doing, any suggestions?

Headers, Throttle body spacer, muffler, and an air filter.

I thought it was rulled in here that the spacer did very very little. Headers I have found will set you back about $800-900 and I don't remember which but only onw manufacturer had them in stock. The others were 3-6 month lead times. Also make sure to get a free flow cat installed when you do all that. I had a thread a ways back with a link to a guy on eBay selling them for $56. Do some searching in here because there are two or three threads that cover all this in depth.

downey headers are actually only like $400-500, I really don't know about the spacers, they are said to make like 10-15hp, but with the 3.0 you never know.

Whatever you do, do not get a TB spacer. You are better off flushing that $$ down the toilet.

That is why I started looking at those in the first place... But for some reason when it came to getting the y pipe and all components it came to almost $700. Then they told me that they had them in back order and should get them in the next 6 months. I'm past the point now of replacing mine concidering I already dropped my engine back in, so I'm not going to mess with it for a while now... Good luck finding them and let me nkow the status when you do!

Just say no to the TB spacer, After owning 3 Toyotas' with 3.0L I found the best proformance gain for a 3.0 where, K&N intake, headers, Free flow cat, good muff., Everthing else I did like Exdrude honing, balanced injectors Big bore TB, etc, etc. All seemed to be a waste of $$$$$ with no noticable gain.

The mods that i have done and actually noticed a difference is the intake silencer removal, Ukmyers intake box modification, k@n filter, and a new muffler. I have seemed to get a little more pep out of my 3.0. You might also look for the thread that was going around about a 3.0 build up.

Cams will also give good power gains but that can be alot of work.

I know, cams do wonders for toyotas, but it is a little bit more of a job than I'd like to tackle.

What did you ExtrudeHone? Been thinking about that when it comes time for a rebuild.

SCC extrude honed the intake manifold of a 1.8 B18C (Integra motor) and lost 1HP.

Not a valid assessment then. Different engine, breathing requirements, valve train, etc. Although it would be interesting to see the torque and horsepower curves of a before and after.

610hp in crate configuration. Oh yeah forgot you have to change everything underneath as well...including the tranny

The came in late 60's eary 70s Road Runners (and Dodge Darts) like this one:

Engine alone accounts for about half of this auction price:

I had the whole intake ExtrudeHone and the TB bored 3mm through Downey along with balanced fuel injectors. Turned out to be a waste $$$$. I didn't notice a thing. I asked around and found others had the same results. Then at a desert race I talked to a guy who Downey used in there catalog ad and he said there statments about his race truck gaining 25 hp where false.
