285-75 R 16's on 16x7 rims?

Just wondering if anyone could direct me to a post or give me some info on mounting 285-75 R 16's on the stock 16x7 rims my 97 runner came with. I was thinking the rims might be too narrow. Thanks

I have 285/75/16 Goodyear MTR's on the stock wheels of the 99 4Runner.

No problem...

What about A-arm rubbing with a 285 on the 5 Star 16x7, that's what I'm rubbing into. No rubbing at normal flex, but it's really close to it.

your a arm articulates with the tire if you have at least 1/2" in between a arm and tire you'll be fine. 1/4" wheel spacers can be added to the front for extra assurace

Some have rubbing issues, and some don't. With 285/75/16 a 16x8 rim with 4.5" of backspacing appears to be magic.

You should look into picking up a set of FJ80 LC/LX rims

I have 285's on 16x7 stockers. Coincidentally, Discount Tire will not mount that size tire on that size rim due to legalities I presume.

I've got my 285/75's on stock rims with no rubbing, close but none. I have to drop the tire pressure to around 28-30psi to get a good even foot print and prevent the middle of the tread from wearing faster than the edges. I don't mind running the lower pressure on the road because it helps to count-act the stiffness of the OME's.

I've never aired down to 10 psi on stock rims...too chicken lol. I have been down to 15 through. Here's an upper a arm clearance pic with my 285's on stock 16x7 5 star rims.

I have a '99 Limited with 881's w top out extended spacer and 891's. I want to continue running the 16x7 15mm offset 5star rims with my new set of 285/75/16 BF AT but having rubbing issues (so says the tire shop) so I just ordered 1.25" bolt on spacers to bring it to -17mm offset.

was that the right move or could I have gone w 1/4" spacers. I dont want any rubbing, I do do alot of highway driving. what are your thoughts? thanks.

Tony
