22re compatibility?

I bought my friends rebuilt 22re from his 85 4runner and I wan't to swap it with my 91 22re. My question is, what is compatable? The machine shop said the blocks were the same but what about the heads?

Ok, the only reason I am woried is because I know the 84' block is difernent so I wasn't sure if the 85' might have a difernet head so I couldn't bolt up my intake or something.

didn't the upper plenum change in '91 or '92? it became a better design because after that, it was straight while earlier ones were angled down.

otherwise, the long blocks should be exactly the same.

I think it was 89. The newer ones eliminated the air valve and the air flow was also improved, giving quicker throttle response and better power.

Yea, I was planning on swaping the plenum anyway because all the pugs are diferent. Sounds like it should be as strait forward swap though.

I think my current motor is on it's death bed but I am not sure. I got the re-built motor for $400 from a guy who just needed to get rid of it but now that my oil presure gauge quit all together, I really don't know what condition the motor is exactly. I man not swap for 50,000 miles.
