2000 4Runner Clutch issue????

Hi all,

I think my clutch is beginning to act up on me.
I first noticed it a few weeks ago.. i was driving and I think I felt my clutch slip. I was in 4th gear, i pressed on the gas pedal the engine revved up w/o feeling any traction... after a second or two the rev needle came back down and I felt the wheels engage in traction.
Lately, I've now began to feel these symptoms in other gears.
Other than that I have no other symptoms.

Does my clutch need replacing???
Any other parts I should checking??

Thxs,

maguirre

On my 5-speed, in 3rd gear, the RPM and MPH move together, always at the same angle. There is a long slope heading up towards my house. If I floor it in 3rd on this hill, and the rpm needle goes up higher than the mph, then I know clutch is slipping. I just did my second at 165k. (Two learners burnt the first one at less than 30k.)

I also did throwout and pilot bearings, slave cylinder, rear main seal and starter contacts while I had it all apart.

Unless you have no sense of smell you should smell that burnt clutch smell.

you are driving on dry road not ice or snow pack??

Amazing how one unskilled clutch user can fry a clutch in a few miles of driving.

I live in NYC.... there aren't that many hills here and I've been driving in dry roads.... I had my truck since 2005 and only very recently I started noticing symptoms of clutch slippage.

I don't really floor my gas pedal when I drive... since I don't need to in my city...
Will the slippage be more noticeable if I floor it????
Next time it happens I'll get out of the car and see if can smell anything...

What parts should be looking to replace for my clutch????
Like I said before my truck has 100,XXX miles on it and I haven't done any clutch work since 60,000 miles when I bought it.

thanks is advance,

maguirre

I used this (Aisin is OEM for these parts):

http://www.amazon.com/Aisin-CKT-040-Clutch-Kit/dp/B00340FETK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386823239&sr=8-1&keywords=Aisin+CKT-040+Clutch+Kit http://www.amazon.com/Aisin-CKT-040-Clutch-Kit/dp/B00340FETK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1386823239&sr=8-1&keywords=Aisin+CKT-040+Clutch+Kit

Also, you need to turn or replace the flywheel.

Yes, flooring in a higher gear than normal for the situation will tend to provoke a slip.
