1st Gen Front Fenders

Does anyone know if there is any difference between 2WD and 4WD 1984 to 1988 Toyota Pickup front fenders? JC whitney says the 2WD and 4WD fenders are different and I can't think how they would be...

I thought they were the same.
Now I'm curious.

They are not the same.. any 2wd or 4wd fender can mount on either a 2wd or 4wd truck... the 2wd fenders are actually a lot flatter, and the 4wd fender bulges out more with an aggresive look.

Yep, Nix Toy is dead on - they are vastly different looking, but can be interchanged just fine. The corner lights are different too, so if you change the fenders get the lights.

go for some fiberglass from downey, toyotafiberglass, hannaman, or glassworks, if you intend to get some new fenders.

thats just my opinion i think glass fenders look nice!

Well i realize that 89 was also a first gen, hell I have one (89) They were not produced for very long, as half way through 1989 they re-tooled and started building the 2nd gen.

BUT 84-88 4runners ARE first gens....so, i wasn't wrong

So do the 84-88 truck or whatever fenders work on the 4runner? Or the tundra conversion? (i dont really like the way it looks, but a solid one piece clamshell intrigues me.)

Also hanmeman doesnt have fenders for an 88 4runner, just those years of trucks.

I see. So it's 150-165ish a fender, about 180 a hood, or 700-900 for a clamshell. Anyone know if the clamshells save any weight? I know structurally they should be stronger.

84-88 4wd pickup and 84-89 4runner share the same front fenders.
i think both corners are the same (2wd vs 4wd) the next generation they changed...
