16x7 4runner rims?

Is it safe to run 285/75r16 on a 16x7 rim?
The tire guide says 7.5-9.0" rim width...
Just would like someone elses .02
I wanna stay with the stock rims because I like them.

You'll be just fine, heck 10.5 boggers call for a 7" rim

Yes I know this thread is 6 months old...

Discount Tire just denied a sale for 285/75/16 BFG AT's on 16x7 stock Sport rims. I'm a little bummed.

Can anyone point me to someone who would mount them for me in the East Valley?

I just ran into the same issue with the Discount Tire store on Cooper & Warner, here in Gilbert. Wouldn't sell me 285s to mount on my 16X7JJ stock alloys. I understand their rationale, but it still sucks.

So you went with 265's instead? Man I just picked up these new rims a few days ago.

usually going with skinnier rims (to a certain degree) isnt a problem, its going wider that causes problems.(from my experience)....i dont see why they wouldnt mount them. Try Big-O, they always mount my tires for me. Even putting tubes in tubless tires which i cant find anybody else to do.

What does Discount have to say for not wanting to mount the tires to 7" wheels?

Something about a BFG report. I'm guessing they don't want to be held liable for any problem resulting from mounting a tire size on a rim size that isn't in the manufacturers specifications. Yes I searched Yotatech, in our little microcosm I haven't found any reference to explosive 285's on 7" rims. Oh well. Nitto specs are pretty much the same for 285/75/16s

BFG specs (click here)

Big O quoted me at least $30 per tire more, said they had none in stock in AZ, and then acted like there were none available in the United States. Two miles away Discount has 5 on the shelf, but I can't put them on my wheels.

Wouldnt mounting a 11.5" tire on a 7" rim be the same as a 12.50 on a 8" ?

Im running a 12.50 on an 8" rim, no problems...I think thats pretty much a normal rim size to be running too.

Yayy for me. Big O matched the price, found some locally and mounted them up today.
