NEED help installing new tail lights

First off, I apologize if this is not the right section... Anywho I just got some of the 01 tail lights for my 99 from burtman industries (great products) and have half way succeed instaling them. I apologize ahead of time for not having pictures to illustrate my issues and my ignorance of technical terms. The electircal wiring has some wires that clip into a white piece (which I have done) and a white wire that has a gold ring at the end. I see where the gold ring should be, but did not have the time to unscrew the screw that was holding in the old ring. When i just clipped in the multi wire circuit (white thing) the lights seem to work but have odd flashing patterns as follows:

When I put it in reverse and have the brake on, the turn signals stay lit but not the reverse light. Then when I release the brake and have it in reverse then the reverse light goes on.
Also when I turn on the turn signal in either direction, the brake lights flash at the same time, then the turn signal, then the brake, etc...

And those are some weird light patterns just to name a few... not even mentioning the reverse light on the dash always stays on.

I suspect all this is due to not yet installing the new gold ring that is connected to the wire (sorry again for not knowing the name). If anyone can make sense of what I am saying lol please tell me what the problem might be.

Thanks for putting up with my confusion.

Doug

ok I THINK I know what you guys mean by ground..... The wire that is not yet connected is white and at the end has a gold ring that will eventially be held down by a screw.... I think that is the 'ground'.. correct??

That's good stuff, majority of my wiring probs lead to bad grounds, then conections. One time my turn signals wouldn't work and it was because i had the hazard light button disconnected cus' i was doin stereo stuff...the same with the dome lights--if you don't screw in the one with the o-ring you get no connection for ground.......frustrating yet simple. which tails did you get? I've got lot's of goodies from Jason B.
